Günter Peter Straschek belongs to a generation of filmmakers who, in the 1960s, were concerned with the problem of how their cinematic aesthetics can be positioned in the fights of the New Left. His film ‹Zum Begriff des 'kritischen Kommunismus' bei Antonio Labriola (1843-1904)› (BDR, 1970, 18 min.) deals with the gap between the theory of the (new)left intellectuals and the everyday life of the proletariat. He refers to the gap that developed with the smashing of the labour movement by fascism.
