With her monochromatic paintings and collages, Ursula van Boekel contrasts the act of forgetting with her own art of remembrance. The selection for the exhibition is drawn from five groups of works created since the 2010s. At its center, autobiographically linked to van Boekel's childhood, is the triptych ‹Wilhelm-Glässing-Straße 21-23›. In 1933, the headquarters of the Gestapo was located at Wilhelm-Glässing-Straße 21-23. In 1960, after the removal of the remaining rubble, a residential complex with Darmstadt's first social housing units was built on this site. In 1988, 50 years after the destruction of the three synagogues in Darmstadt, the New Synagogue Darmstadt was inaugurated across the street at Wilhelm-Glässing-Straße 26.

The exhibition title refers to the slogan «Darmstadt, Großstadt im Walde» «Darmstadt, Metropolis in the Forest», which the centrally controlled tourism policy of the National Socialists used to promote the residential city to a broader audience. Only after the end of World War II did it become the «City of Arts», in the 1980s the «City of Science», and recently the «Digital City».
