Presentation of Christina Kubisch´s workshop
With participants of the Darmstadt Summer Course for New Music
Nothing looks the way it sounds. Nothing sounds the way it looks. Since the end of the 1970s composer, flautist, and sound artist Christina Kubisch explores the hidden sounds of public spaces making them audible, for example in her series of works Electrical Walks. This year´s workshop for the Darmstadt Summer Course for New Music is about sounds, which normally cannot be heard like electro-magnetic waves, underwater-sounds, solar frequencies or radio waves. Participants are invited to discover soundscapes and signals in and around Darmstadt, to record them, and to transfer them into a work of art to be presented in the Kunsthalle Darmstadt in the end of the workshop. It remains to be seen whether installations, compositions, sound sculptures, performances, or something else entirely is created based on the acoustic research.
