Ein Wochenende mit Pop-up-Ausstellung, Workshops und Filmscreenings
«Die Ästhetik des Widerstands»
06 09 19
08 09 19

The weekend event on ‹Die Ästhetik des Widerstands› with a pop-up exhibition, workshops and filmscreenings at the Kunsthalle Darmstadt will take Peter Weiss's novel of the same title as a starting point to question the relationship between politics and aesthetics in different formats. The events tie in with the exhibition ‹Helmpflicht›, which also illuminates the situation of the «working class» from the perspective of contemporary artists using the theme of the construction site.

Peter Weiss (1916–1982) published one volume each of his monumental novel ‹The Aesthetics of Resistance› in 1975, 1978 and 1981. The trilogy centers on the question of the political explosive power of education and, in particular, of art and culture.

Original issues of the AIZ can be seen this weekend in Studio West of the Kunsthalle.

Two workshops on Saturday and Sunday offer the opportunity to get to know the novel by Peter Weiss as well as the publishing practice of Willi Münzenberg. Together with Julian Volz, political scientist and curator of the weekend ‹Die Ästhetik des Widerstands›, passages from the work will be discussed. Participation in the workshop is free of charge. No previous knowledge is required. The workshop language is German.

To attend the workshops please register latest by 2nd September 2019: jvolz@hgb-leipzig.de
