During the preparations for the retrospective ‹Introspection and Commentary›, Arie van Selm's first comprehensive institutional tribute, the artist passed away. The chance for a direct encounter with the painter and sculptor, whose roots lie in both Europe and the USA and whose work is present in numerous private and public collections, is now only possible through his rich oeuvre.
To nevertheless offer the audience a glimpse into this singular artistic existence, the Kunsthalle Darmstadt is hosting a conversation between his widow, Jutta van Selm, Professor of German Language and Literature at the University of Dallas/Texas, and art critic Roland Held. From different perspectives, both will shed light on Arie van Selm's personality, working methods, and artistic world.
