First Friday with double opening,
Artist-Talk and Music-Performance

‹In situ› is a political exhibition in the program of the Kunsthalle Darmstadt. Against the backdrop of the crimes of the Nazi era, it addresses racism, right-wing radicalism, and anti-Semitism. Eight artists and one collective show in Studio West how history can be updated for future generations. At the opening on First Friday, Anastasia Tikhomirova moderates a conversation with Leon Kahane and ‹Schandwache›. Afterwards, the artist and musician Maria Margolina aka Slovva presents a live set that picks up on her series of works ‹Traces of Continuity›.

The archaeological term ‹in situ› is also to be understood as a call to sweep in front of your own door. In fact, in June 1936, the second station of the traveling exhibition ‹Degenerate Art› opened, which was intended to discredit and exile the avant-garde, in the war-destroyed predecessor building of the Kunsthalle Darmstadt.

In Studio Ost opposite, we are simultaneously opening the exhibition ‹Teilstücke› by Sylvia Heidt. With Food-Art, poetry, and video, the artist creates a minimalist room installation, at the center of which is a popular kitchen spice.
